I got to the hotel about 11:30
or so I think. I was meeting up with LadyJeep and ErinAnderson from
the Gateworld forum (LJ had my gold ticket). It took me a few
minutes to find them and in the meantime I ran into tallisen (who I recognized because
she had her adorable J/D plushies ;) ), her sister and her Dad. I'd
like to state for the record that Tallie is the sweetest person
ever. She was so much fun to hang out with. Her Dad and
sister are also really nice, funny people. Great fun. :D
Anyway, I got my gold ticket stuff and hotel room, autograph
piccies, photo op tickets, etc all worked out and then went to find
my seat. I was F-15 which was right on the aisle. It was a great
seat. The only niggle is that the camera they used to project
everything onto the big screen was right next to me so people had to
squeeze to get by.
Dan talked about the new
medieval-style sets for S9. He said that Daniel's already been
whumped a couple of times and one of those times was him being
thrown against the wall on that set. Poor Daniel. :p When Tallie and
I went on the set tour the next day we were scouting the set for
where we thought he got thrown. :p Back to Dan, he talked a lot of
the various stunts he had to do for RDA. I can't mention anything
specific right now because he told very long, convoluted stories and
my memory is pretty blurry. He made fun of Rick a lot which was very
amusing. He cracked a lot of jokes about how old and decrepit Rick
is, saying they wheel him onto the set in a wheelchair, etc. He
mentioned a little spoilery thing so I'll save that for later so the
spoilerphobes don't hate me. :) He did talk about Ben Browder and
little and had nothing but good things to say. :) Dan kept making
little slashy references too. Everytime people laughed he'd say "But
I don't mean anything by that". *G*
I was excited to see Craig because I liked the Grodin character,
bad accent and all. He was very talkative and personable. He talked
about how he got his start in acting and what he's worked on before
and after Atlantis. He was on Dark Angel and finally I know why his
name was so familiar. He played Otto Gottlieb in the second season.
He was sad he got killed off because he was having lots of fun on
the show so people started suggesting ways he could come back.
Someone said that he could have ascended and he could come back
naked like Daniel which got a lot of laughs. I wouldn't mind that.
;)
After his talk they aired 1969 on the big screen. I watched bits
of it but I went down to the merchandise room to browse. Craig was
in there signing his autographs so I got one for my Mom because she
adores him so much. I asked for a picture and he very graciously
agreed. I'm still bummed they killed him off. He's sweet.
:)
Next up was Peter Williams. I think I'm going to do this point
form because there's quite a bit and I'm too lazy to type it all up
in good paragraphs. :p Also, this is by no means everything he
talked about, just the stuff people will probably be interested
in.
- He got right into ways to ressurrect Apophis although I don't
think he really has to worry. The writers find ways to bring him
back as it is (Moebius, for example).
- Someone asked if his goatee on the show was his or fake. He
said one time it was fake, the other was real. I got the impression
that the goatee in Moebius was his own.
- He got asked about the Goa'uld voice and did he have to deliver
his lines any differently or was everything done in post-production.
He said he delivered his lines a little flat but that was
it.
- He auditioned for Teal'c first but after seeing CJ for the
first time he understood why didn't get the part. ;)
- His favourite eps are the early ones (Children of the Gods,
Serpent's Song) and not the ones where he had the Borg face. *g*
- The serpent helmet he had to wear in the pilot weighed 60
pounds and he had to make sure to tuck his nose in so it wouldn't
get taken off.
- His favourite people to work with on the show were Vaitiare
Bandera (for obvious reason *cough*pilot*cough* ;) ) and then RDA
and CJ. He admires MS and AT for how fast they talk. He joked about
how Teryl was a tyrant (she was backstage :p ).
- His favourite line is "Fool! I will kill you!" from The Nox and
he said it in character. *g*
- The zat is his favourite weapon and the hand device his least
favourite because it never fit properly.
- Someone asked which role he'd like on Atlantis and he said
Apophis because A could kick the Wraith's ass.
- There was a little boy named Carter at the convention who
quickly became famous. He asked Peter if he could make his eyes glow
and Peter just laughed and brought him up on stage. He got down on
his knees and told Carter that they were going to turn around away
from the audience. Peter told him that if he could make his eyes
glow, to give and thumbs up to the audience and if not, to give a
thumbs down. So they turn away and then a few seconds later Carter
turns around with a big thumbs up. I have no idea what Peter said to
him but the kid was satisfied.
- He ended his talk with an awesome "Jaffa! Kree!"
After Peter they had the Stump the Experts panel. Darren and
David from Gateworld were up there as well one one girl who's a
moderator. They asked for a volunteer from the audience so Erin (one
of my roomies) got up there too. I thought about asking a question
but I couldn't really think of anything good. Anyone who stumped
them could go up to a table and pick out a prize. They had T-shirts,
hats, calendars, etc. The usual stuff.
- She started off by talking about Janet's death, how
disappointed she was and how she wants to come back. People were
brainstorming ideas and the quantam mirror seems to be the most
popular one
- She didn't really prepare for the role of Janet, just used her
instinct.
- Her dream theatre roles are Calpurnia from Julius Caesar,
Maggie from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (but she joked that now it would
have to be Cougar on a Hot Tin Roof :p ) and Cleopatra from Antony
and Cleopatra.
- She was asked for juicy details on Michael Shanks. She said he
used to this thing where he would run his fingers along her neck
then tug a little on the hair at the nape of her neck. She said it
felt really good and she'd always get so distracted. He's always do
it right as the director would call 'Action!' so she'd be spaced out
when the cameras were rolling.
- Favourite episodes are The Broca Divide, Upgrades, Singularity
and Urgo
- She says that she doesn't want to do any writing but she might
try directing one day.
- She has no idea what Janete was looking for with that damn pen
light. :p
- She gets teary easy and said she has "bladders behind my
eyeballs." I'm like that too and I think that's a hilarious way to
describe it. :D
- This French guy tried to ask her a question and she called him
up on stage. He eventually got out "Do you know what a French kiss
is?" which got a huge reaction from both her and the audience. She
asked him how old he was and when he said 20, she told him to go out
and rent The Graduate. Mrs. Robinson was her. :p
When Teryl was finished they did the autographs. They aired some
Atlantis S2 footage but I'll talk about that later (they aired it
again on Saturday but with SG-1 S9 footage as well). I was hoping to
get through the autoraphs by 7 because that's when we were supposed
to meet for the Gateworld dinner but that didn't happen. I think by
the time we wandered over there it was after 7:30. Darren and David
had arranged for 3 special guests to join us. We knew that Bruce
Woloshyn (visual effects) would be there but they never
disclosed the other two. Turns out that our other guests were Martin
Gero (Atlantis producer/writer) and Rainbow Francks (Lt. Ford). I
talked to Rainbow a bit about his character next year. There
was no real spoilers but for the super spoiler-phobe, I'll save
what he said for a different entry. I mostly talked to Rainbow about
Muchmusic because he was a VJ and I used to watch him all the time.
Bruce came over to our table and chatted for a good half hour or so.
I'll be saying this about all the guests but he was super nice and
very enthusiastic. He was just so flattered that people actually
wanted to hear what he had to say. A couple things he mentioned that
I can remember off the top of my head was that Atlantis itself (the
wide city shot) took weeks to design. When the writers/directors
told him that they wanted the funky swooshing through the city shots
in The Siege Part 2 he thought they were crazy and that it would
look dumb. They managed to pull if off though and he seemed happy
when we all told him that we thought it all looked fantastic.
I never actually got to eating very much at the dinner. I ate
some salad because my stomach was yelling at me. I didn't realize it
until later but the last time I'd eaten had been about 9am. Oops. I
never did get much of a chance to talk to Martin Gero because I took
time out to eat and also I left the dinner a little early. The
Cabaret was starting at 8:30 and I didn't want to miss all of it. I
left about 9:15 or so and after I left, Courteney Stevens showed up.
He played Eliot in Proving Ground and also a character on Atlantis
in Childhood's End. Darren and David also gave away some prized at
the dinner and I won an Atlantis T-shirt. Yay me. :)
As I mentioned, I arrived late. I completely missed Peter
Williams doing his reggae songs and most of Tony Amendola's readings
so we'll have to hear from tallisen on that. Tony was
obviously very funny because everyone was laughing when I arrived.
He was telling airplane jokes or something. He finished up with a
Shakespeare reading ("All the world is a stage").
Teryl was last out and she sang 4 show tunes. I can't remember
them all now. There was 'Tits and Ass' from Chorus Line, 'Hey Big
Spender' and damn, I can't remember the other two. She was very fun
and flirty and her voice was actually pretty good. She stayed in
tune which is always good. ;) At one point she brought a girl on
stage with her to do a little choreography. For 'Hey, Big Spender'
she brought a French guy on stage (Teryl really likes those French
people ;) ) and she sang to him, flirting with him the whole time.
Of course, he flirted right back. They were really funny to watch.
At one point he got up, put his arms around her and started doing
this sexy little sway. At the end he carried her around the stage
and then planted a big kiss on her. Or maybe she kissed him. I think
it was the first one. ;)
After the Cabaret was over, they screened Wormhole X-Treme and I
stayed to watch all of that. Afterwards, I checked email and then
headed up to my room. I was intending to get some sleep but that was
not to be. I stayed up talking with my roommates and then when we
finally did crash, one of my roomies was snoring which was keeping
me up. Ah well, c'est la vie!
